Pearl of Taihu Lake
Wuxi, on the northern shore of Taihu Lake, has long been known as the 'Pearl of Taihu.' The lake itself — the third largest freshwater lake in China — forms a dreamlike landscape of islands, fishing boats, and misty shores. Lihu Park and the ancient Yuantouzhu (Turtle Head Isle) peninsula are the finest spots to watch the lake shift from dawn gold to evening silver.
The city's heritage runs deep. The grand Lingshan Grand Buddha, a towering bronze statue set against the lake, anchors one of China's most impressive Buddhist sites. Wuxi also preserves its canal-town charm at Nanchang Street, a centuries-old waterside district of tea houses, silk shops, and traditional opera stages.
Modern Wuxi is a manufacturing and technology powerhouse in the Yangtze River Delta, yet it has kept its garden-like calm. Its celebrated cuisine — including Wuxi spare ribs and tender lake fish — reflects the region's love of subtly sweet flavors, offering a refined taste of Jiangnan living.
